Shannon Stratman

Educator

"My name is Shannon, and I am an educator at Youth Environmental Alliance. I am passionate about the preservation of historical sites and artifacts, waste reduction, reusing trash to create art, and the intersection between tourism and sustainability. I graduated from UCF with a degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Anthropology. During my undergraduate research, I learned that environmental education has low success rates due to the lack of supplemental, hands-on instruction. At YEA we strive to rewrite the narrative by providing high engagement, experimental learning. Before coming to the team, I worked on designing sustainability workshops, lessons, events, and activities for ages K-12. One of my main objectives in life is helping children create eco-memories. These memories help students develop a deeper understanding of their relationship with nature. I believe that guiding the youth to value and understand the natural environment will shape future generations and their actions towards the earth."
