Kent Johnson
YEA Secretary
Kent grew up exploring the mountains of West Virginia. So far he has lived in 17 cities, in seven states. He has lived in Florida since 1990. He spent over 25 years with national food and beverage companies in executive sales and marketing positions, expertise he now brings to YEA as well as his enthusiasm for connecting people of all ages to the outdoors which started due to his love for volunteering and teaching.
Kent is our "hot" yoga teacher, teaching hot yoga, yoga classes for students with movement disorders (i.e. MS, Parkinsons), and Connected Warriors Free Yoga for Veterans since 2007. Kent was truly moved by his involvement with two studies at Nova Southeastern University to determine the correlation between yoga and veterans/first responders with PTSD. The positive findings were presented to the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York. He hopes to continue that kind of healing by continuing to teach yoga and connecting others with nature through YEA programming, another path to healing.
Kent got introduced to YEA! through the Florida Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs where he was a student of YEA. Thanks to his love of people and nature, he fits in perfectly with YEA! He says there is nobody else that invites him to the beach, the intercoastal, local lakes and the Everglades to play. He especially enjoys being “Baitman” for the fishing events. Kent says, “Everyone who attends a YEA! event will learn something new, and will smile while they are learning.”
Kent is a true success story for YEA, a student first becoming a volunteer, then a donor and now also a Board member! He supports our mission and is legacy 3-fold, ensuring his legacy will remain "For Youth, For the Environment, Forever!"
