Tired of going to the grocery store? Now you can grow your own food! Become a backyard and kitchen Horticulturalists, using ancient methods for growing food through DIY hydroponic systems and other DIY upcycled countertop gardens!
Hydroponics are one of the easiest and most fun gardening methods, giving big crops with little effort. Create your own mini-indoor garden and learn horticulture techniques to:
Grow edible plants from seedlings and food cuttings
Create compact indoor hydroponic systems using every-day materials
Learn how to improve global food security through self-sufficiency and hydoponic's role in creating a healthy environment.
You will also learn how to create other countertop upcycled gardens which may include biodegradable pots or countertop greenhouses and more.

Curriculum
Covers the following Science Standards-Big ideas: The Practice of Science; Organization and Development of Living Organisms; Interdependence; Diversity and Evolution of Living Organisms.
Course Format
During this in-person or virtual gardening experience, you will join a 50-minute to 90-minute class and work to create a working hydroponic garden and other countertop gardens using materials that we would normally throw in the trash. Guided each step of the way by Youth Environmental Alliance ecology and biology experts, if joined virtually, you will prepare for the class in advance by collecting readily available materials and household recyclables! If in person, YEA will bring needed materials to you.
